Seat / seatbelt options

Hi All
I’m restomoding the interior of my 65 Bel Convertible. Years ago I swapped out the bench for a pair of buckets out of a Chevy pickup, because they have the shoulder seatbelt built into the head of the backrest. They work well and are reasonably comfortable yet they look too large for the car. So I have seen that Chrysler Sebrings have the same design and the 08-10 are the best looking . I have contacted a couple of salvage companies like car-parts and they either don’t have them or they want $800 shipped. I would still have to paint the plastics and have them recovered , as black for Chrysler is actually a dark gray. As always I’m cheap and working on a budget .if anyone is aware of other makes and models that may have the same design please let me know so I can expand my search.

I don't know where you are at but have you tried the local junk yards pick and pull etc?

Unfortunately there are no junkyards that you can roam . Called a few and they are all on the network and so far nothing available.

Sebring conv. seats have been popular for over 10 years with hot rodders. So they have gotten expensive. I paid $300 for a pair 12 years ago. And I had to drive 4 hours to get them. I have them in a 64 buick riviera and it is the most comfortable, safe classic I own.

Not a lot of options out there these days. few of the modern vehicles have the shoulder belts anchored on the seat back anymore. Probably your best bet would be the second row searing in SUVs, many are now bucket seats with higher seat backs and are often removable seats and may still have the shoulder belts (and both ends of the lap belts) attached to the seat frame.Those are likely not the form fitting seats like those in a Sebring though. Finding decent seats that are over 5 years old is getting tougher.

If your looking at spending a grand for a pair of buckets, it might be worth while to look into custom made seats like Glide seating or others. I haven't looked into those companies recently, so they may be even more higher priced, but at least you can get nice new seats.

Full size 2000s Buicks had the seatbelt in the seats like you're looking for.

01 to 07 sebring convertible, if I remember right are the ones to get.

No airbag stuff, regular pendulum type seatbelt tensioner (no electronics). Only electric part is power seat related.

Earlier 96 to 2000 seats require a separate computer to operate the seat belt tensioner.

Later sebring/200 convertible stuff has the airbags, which isn't a problem as long as you don't accidentally apply 12 volts to their circuit.

I was lucky and scored a nice set of 04 leather buckets at my pull a part last week.

I have read about some using BMW convertible seats that have the built in seat belts but do not know the particulars on those.

Those 01-07 Sebring seats are now 15 - 22 years old. Unless those seats were leather, the odds are not with them having very good upholstery any more. Being that old, they nearly qualify as antiques, if there were not Mopars, maybe you could find replacement seat covers for them on line someplace, but being Mopar seats, there is pretty big doubt about finding seat covers either.

One DDG search results in at least three replacement seat covers, not generic ones either.

You are right of course. But the scavenger hunt is part of working on these old cars. I got lucky and found a really decent set, but plan to get them recovered in white leather at some point anyways.
