Replacement or Upgrade for 1977 Power Window Switches

Replacement or Upgrade for 1977 Power Window Switches - 10/06/22 07:57 PM

I have a 1977 Gran Fury, 2 door, with power windows.

The drivers side window switch has become temperamental. I never know if the window is actually going to go down, or if it goes down will it come back up. The wiring is all in good condition, I am pretty sure the problem is internal in the rocker switch from decades of use.

I can find early 90's truck power window switches pretty easily, and even some 80's switches. But finding late 70's 2 door car window switches seems to be like finding hens teeth, and the cost if you come across one is more then my meager budget will allow. Its not a show car, its just something I enjoy driving.

Have any of you folks heard about someone adapting the newer switches into the older cars?

Have you tried shooting some electrical contact cleaner in the switchs?

I have not, but I will try that.

But the drivers window rocker on the driverside two switch assembly is a bit wobbly (for lack of a better word) it seems to have more "jiggle" movement than the passenger window rocker in the same switch assembly.

You may be able to either rebuild the switch or swap parts from another to get rid of the wobble.
Also using the switch to control relays that in turn control the motor may help as well. beer
