Info on Chrysler Marine 426b Engine

Hello, Just wanted to pick the brains of some people who have some knowledge in this field. My buddy picked up and old 30' pleasure boat this past week that had been sitting in a marina for years. His plan is to cut it down and turn it into a Commerical crabbing boat. When he started tearing into it he found out it still had a motor in it. Its a Chrysler Marine engine, best i can read from the model # on the tag is model: 426b(W?)R10 Type: 610. Wondering exactly what it is, and also if its worth anything before he does something with it. I have attached some pictures, not the best quality, but can get more in the am.

some of what my dad knows. if they had 2 engines, like a tug boat, 1 is std rotation, other is backward. oil pan is heavier than heck. most had solid lifter cam and rocker arms and 11.1 compression. some stuff will interchange but a lot is scrap. good luck.

Interesting! I bought one years ago from a friend. It was a fresh rebuild and a great 426 Wedge Block. The block was used by a friend and is still in use in his street car. If you need a transmission, intake, oil pan or exhaust manifolds let me know.

One thing to be concerned about seeing you are on the Coast is the type of cooling the engine had , fresh water or raw water . If raw water , and this was an ocean vessel , the salt water can eventually do a number on the cylinder walls from the cooling side . If it had a closed /fresh water system with a heat exchanger that is obviously lessened .

If it turns out the block is scrap from the rust, all of the stuff will bolt up to regular 440 block except the pistons. If I was going to go through the motor,I would build the 440 anyway as there are a lot more options for reasonable priced pistons.

Update: I am going to save it, I'll try and post more pictures for anyone interested. It was a fresh water system, so hoping it isn't in too bad of shape. Buddy first told me it was a 426 Hemi at first, which obviously I could tell immediately when I saw the engine that it wasn't, but I've never driven anywhere so fast in my life lol

Better hope it was properly winterized. Could have block cracks.

I had a 1965 426 wedge block magnafluxed that had freeze cracks on both sides and a casting flaw inside the crankcase area under the #4 cylinder that wasn't found when it was magnaflux
It was supposed to be a virgin stock motor, it wasn't
It had been bored +.060 over and had some taper needing another bore job so it ended up at 4.320 bore size which made piston choices a lot easier for the overhaul. up:
