Fixing an aluminum radiator, where find low heat welding rod - 07/21/22 01:01 AM

So I have an aluminum race radiator that is in great condition, but somehow got nicked and sprinkle a very small leak in one of the tubes. I think I can fix it with sold aluminum low heat welding rod that melts with a torch. Any sources out there that are good quality? Not sure what is a good and what is crap. We had some we used on transmission cases and work great, but ran out and the source we used has been long closed now.

You should be able to solder it.

. Would rather use the rod to solder it as I don’t have a soldering gun or equipment. Plus I’d like to have some for future repairs and last minute repairs.

Most repairs can be done with a simple propane torch.

Need one that does not use flux. Melt directly to surface and it binds to it. Similar to this:

Without seeing what you have its hard to say what exactly you are fixing. But if it is what I think I could have it repaired in minutes.

I found this on Youtube where the test a bunch of no weld welding rods. Pretty interesting results.

Just put some epoxy into the broken tube & then crimp it over, one tube wont affect its cooling ability

Not sure if it's an option for you but I've tig welded damaged cores many times, no problem.
