Clutch 10.5 or 11 - 07/15/22 07:35 PM

I am going to change the clutch on my RB engine , new flywheel and new clutch kit , is a 11" clutch a simple bolt on as the flywheel has the hole for it so I want to know if everything else is a direct swap , thanks

Not sure what this means

as the flywheel has the hole for it

Tooth count has to match on the flywheels otherwise the bellhousing will not work with the new flywheel.

A 10.5" clutch usually has a 130 tooth flywheel, and the 11" one, assuming it's a true 11" and not the 10.95" one, has more teeth.

If it is aftermarket replacement flywheel it may have both patterns on it, use the one that fits your pressure platewrench up scope
Don't forget to use the clutch disc alignment tool before tightening up the pressure plate bolts scope

Hey Cab,

I bought the wrong set-up for my car. Went with the 130 tooth flywheel and 10.5" clutch. Bought these a few years back from Summit and am now just getting it all together. The starter will not come close to engaging so after checking, my old one was indeed the 143 tooth and 11.0" clutch. If I want to use the new set-up, could I simply change the bellhousing? It may cost more to do this than to just buy the correct parts, but I hate to just put these on the shelf. Had them too long to ship back. What would you do?

I would try calling summit and see if they can exchange the flywheel or kit especially if it's still a current offering. they have been quite accommodating for me in situations like this beer

Good idea

If they can't help you can change the bellhousing but the bellcrank may be too short or may need a new mount.

Brewers or possably passion are good sources for the bellcrank/mounts and info.

You are going to need either an aftermarket 143 tooth flywheel that has both pressure plate bolt patterns or a bell housing for a 130 tooth flywheel. Brewers has both. Not a huge difference in price. Which ever way you go you may be able to sell yours on Moparts, eBay or Facebook.

LUK LFW106 is a 143 tooth flywheel that appears to have both patterns on it.

Under $100, less shipping and tax, from Rockauto

Is that internal or external balance FW? Interesting only listed for trucks.

Yes, I ran a flywheel in my Diplomat that was only listed for Dakotas. Same 130 tooth flywheel as the cars used. Lots of application issues these days, not just RA though, it usually the manufacturer. I did try to look it up at the LUK site, no help there.

As for a cast flywheel, isn't that what Chrysler put them? Some people think everything is a race car out there.

It lists it as a flywheel for 318's so it should be internal balance.

As for why it is for trucks only is probably because only truck 318's got an 11" flywheel (143 tooth) during the years it is listed for. Passenger car 318's would be a 10.5" flywheel (130 tooth).

I'm under the impression from one of the old Mopar drag race seminars that all the production OEM flywheels for every V8 motor except the 1971 and later 360 where forged steel, not cast iron or cast steel confused
