Dodge dealer tech questions - 07/10/22 05:26 PM

I just finished rebuilding the 360 in a 1999 Dakota. We used a scan tool to sync the base timing and it fired right up first try. Runs great, no leaks. Took for a test spin seemed sluggish like taking off in high gear. Hooked scan tool back up and it does show trans is stuck in 3rd gear. Has all of these error codes. Tried to clear them but they come right back.

Odd thing is transmission was not touched. It was supported with trans jack during the rebuild of engine. Didn't touch anything on the trans other than bellhousing and torque converter bolts.
None of these issues or codes were present before engine swap.

How would doing an engine swap cause all these transmission codes?

Double check all your connectors are seated. Hands on check, not an eyeball. Ran into something similar and it turned out to be a connector not fully seated, but to the eyeball it looked ok

Check all your grounds and connectors. Disconnect the battery, press the brake and hold it and turn the key to On & then Start for 2 to 3 seconds while doing this, then restore and recheck.

There used to be a sharp Tech at Solo PCM's in Florida who may know what's going on if the above doesn't work. Best of luck.

If your first check of grounds and connectors doesn't solve the problem, physically trace the wiring from the PCM to the trans to make sure nothing was damaged during the swap. Next step would be getting a diagram and checking resistance on the wiring from those solenoids to the PCM...

Also take a good look to make sure you didn't pinch any wires between the engine a trans.
