Specs for oil pressure sensors?

Specs for oil pressure sensors? - 07/08/22 06:46 PM

I'd like to find a newer/different oil pressure sensor for a 5.7 swap.
2 reasons for this, the old PS59 sensor is large and requires multiple adapters.
Ideally there would be a different sensor with smaller body and same resistance range.
Problem is, none of the sites give resistance info for the sensors.
Old sensor is 1.8" NPT, and the 5.7 block needs a 1/4" NPT.

Long winded explanation to ask, how can I find the resistance specs on a new car sensor?

The sensor is going to be dependent on what you are using for a gauge cluster. If old original just use the compatible sensor and get a 1/8 npt to 3/8 npt adapter.

Ohm range:

74= Full scale

23= Half scale

10= Bottom scale

Some replacement parts catalogs list the resistance.

Look to see if you can find a "datasheet" for the part# on the manufacturer's website.

That's the problem, no info on site, not even the thread size of the sensors, so definitely no resistance info.

Didn't we just do this?

What gauge are you using?

That will determine what specifications your sender needs to have.

If you are using the older musclecar era type gauge then the specs Kunkel gave you are correct, just use an adapter.

If you are using a later model gauge then all I can suggest is THIS they list specs. not sure if it will help.

Note that in order to calibrate the meter, it is possible to add or decrease the ohms by adding external resistors...

Just my $0.02... wink

Sorry , here’s the rest of the info.
Need oil pressure sensor to work with 70 ralley gauges.
The old pressure sensor has a large can body.
This large can won’t fit on the 5.7 Hemi because the alternator occupies the same area.
A smaller sensor, there’s another just below it, would fit.
The other option is to add at least 2 adapters, 1/8” to 1/4” and a 90 degree to point it rearward.
Was hoping to find something to screw directly in.

How about drilling and tapping it in another place to make the new type sender work for you work scope wrench up
I am now using the big remote NASCAR Wix brand race filters on all my drag race motors up wrench
I drill and tap them in two places for the electric oil temp and oil pressure senders up scope

Why not get a braided ss flex line and mount it remotely?

Yes, nothing says the sensor has to be mounted on the motor, there may be a few milliseconds before the gauge sees the response, but if your using the old 70s gauges, a few milliseconds won't make much difference. Just be sure the sender is secure where ever and how ever its mounted.

I used the 1/8" npt port on the front of the engine. used the same type of sending unit.
