2005 Dodge Ram rough idle - 07/06/22 08:39 PM

Truck has about 100,000 miles engine is a 4.7..Engine light came on,code was #2 cyl. faulty spark plug,coil or fuel injector.Has a rough idle.Changed all three and still the same.Compression test was 120lb.Anyone know what's wrong?Any advice?As always, TIA

Not much stuff good with a 100K miles on a 4.7.
Start by pulling the valve covers and make sure all the lifters are still in place and functioning correctly.
Then is probably time to replace the plastic timing chain guides. The worn guides allow the timing chains to flop around and can change the valve timing by a few degrees.
Hopefully it has not been overheated and blown a head gasket, or wiped out the bearings on the crank.

Our 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi had a bad seal on the EGR tube. It was leaking on the intake end on the EGR tube.. New seal and all working again as it should.

Sprayed choke cleaner all around engine to try to find a vacuum leak.No change.This is a tough one.Any more ideas?

Did you pull the valve covers?
