Paint Guys, finishing compound ?

Paint Guys, finishing compound ? - 06/24/22 07:20 PM

I have been using 3M Finesse-It II for over 30 years.
Admittedly it's always been pricey but I'm seeing 60-75.00 a quart? eek Last I remember it was ~ 28 - 32.00.
So, being a tight as-, I'm wondering if there's a good alternative or possibly even better one that's a bit easier on the shorts LOL
FYI: I usually wet sand down to 1500 -2500 before polishing, and kkind of bounce back and forth between foam and the fine wool

TIA beer

Way back when I used to detail cars they bought buffing products from this place. You can contact them and ask them if they have a comparable product vs the 3M Finesse It stuff. We used their One Shot stuff all the time. It was often enough to get most used trade-ins looking good in the first pass.

I always liked Finesse It; it was pretty spendy last year when I bought some. Guess I'd better lock it up now...
Back in the '90s, high-end shop, we bought a lot of P&S products, good stuff.
Haven't seen P&S in any of the jobbers around here, though.

I have always used Meguiar's they have just about any grit you would want. Use wool for compounding and foam for final polish.

Thanks for the replies and I follow up I will check with the suppliers on Monday. 60-75 a qt is just a bit out of line IMO. I don't mind paying for quality but balk when I'm sending the exec's kids to college and paying for that beach front vacation home whistling tsk beer

^^^ I bet prices on K-Y Jelly are up, too !

I've used Meguiar's as well at home, good stuff and quite a range.
Seems to me that retail stuff is likely more competitively priced than jobber/commercial stuff, where they seem to think the cost just gets passed on...

up maybe they're using pharmaceutical compounds, gold, unobtanium or lithium in it. I'm assuming the price of lithium is on the up swing LOL. I was just quickly trying to think of a commonly used consumer type item that is 75.00 a quart? shruggy

need to change up buffing technique , i too used Finesse-it and #m buffing compounds , now they Perfect- it I and Perfect -it II , profit newer version , one compound chemical grit that breaks down to nothing, i couldn't believe it until I tryed it. then I use Imperial hand glaze after that . looks great. It probably helps that when I wet sand I start with !000 grit , 1500, 2000, and 3000. but I only use "Mc Guire's" the most perfect grit in the world.

I bought Meguiars M10032 Mirror Glaze Pro Speed Compound at Horror freight of all places. 1 qt bottle for 30.00. Works great at 1/2 GREE(dy)M's price. Actually seemed to cut better. Thanks for the suggestion beer
