Mopar blue engine paint - 06/13/22 02:12 PM

I'm wondering if I can get this vintage paint from anyone? I need to do some touch up on a 72 340 and would prefer not to repaint entire engine. Please let me know if you have a can to sell or know someone who does.

Thanks in advance

I have been looking for the blue also not sure if it's supply chain issues or they just don't make it any longer. I would suggest taking a valve cover or something painted in the color to your local paint shop to see if they can make it up for you.

There is this OER out there using the mopar performance part number, but I have no idea if it's any good.

I just bought some of the Dupli-Color Chrysler Blue, but haven't tried it yet.
Swapping a 360 truck oil pan to a passenger car oil pan, and need to paint the new oil pan. I'll see if the color matches up?

This is the ONLY kind I could source locally. Having done the engine block, the timing chain cover and the water pump I've got to say this seems to be a lighter colour than what my old paint was. Now for the life of me I cannot remember the brand (spray can though), but it wasn't DupliColor, I can tell you that.

I've found the stuff varies a bit and you always seem to be able to tell what's been painted with a different can.

Yes.
The OEM blue also changed from under hood heat. Even the old Mopar engine paint was all over the scale as far as shade was concerned. I learned early that if you wanted either the blue, or the turquoise motor the same shade, you better be putting that last coat on from the same can.

Call Frank Balason, he has the correct shades of paint. Not sure if he has blue though, but be prepared to pay.

The Graveyard Cars show has used PPG Chrysler blue auto paint on the engines. Seems there is a PPG code for Chrysler corporate blue. From an old service manual the Corporate Blue color in PPG Ditzler is 12785, also DT8221 or 2423. This is an old code and not sure how well it crosses to today's formulas. If it does cross, perhaps you can cross reference the code with another manufacturer that sells paint online, like TCP global. Have them mix up a pint and spray from a Preval sprayer or there are touch up places on line that will mix up a spray can.

It seems there's a few options out there, all you can do is start trying them and see how it looks.
If it's still original paint on there it's going to be discolored a bit with heat and age. If it's been repainted before you don't know what was used.
I'd get a rattle can of whatever you can get the easiest and start from there.

If my numbers above hold true, this should also be the "petty blue" or "blue streak/basin street blue" in 1972-73 with the B3 color. Take that B3 color online to Automotive Touch Up and they will do a 12oz spray can of it for about $27.

I was looking for the Turquoise paint and Herbs was about the only place I could find it. Their paint has worked well for me so far. They have the Blue, Orange, Red and Turquoise.
