1970 k member question - what happened ?

I haven't seen this before, its sort of mis shaped - Its a coined k member (52) from a 70 e body. the other side is a bit mis shaped too but not so dramatic. Shows a split?

I wonder if it had been in a accident in years past and it had been on a frame puller machine?

Looks like it could have been outside and had water in it that froze expanding the metal.
