Milodon Oil Pan Gasket Recommendation

Milodon Oil Pan Gasket Recommendation - 06/04/22 06:20 AM

Hello. I have an older Milodon Dakota LA (8 quart) Oil Pan on a 1998 Magnum 5.9 block with a Stroker Kit. From what I'm seeing it appears to have a minor leak somewhere. From what little research I have gathered the Milodon Oil Pan Gasket is questionable according to some. I see Milodon offers to different gaskets for this application so this leads me to my first question. So, should I use an LA style gasket for this engine or should I use the Magnum one piece style gasket? Second question is should I use the Milodon brand or go with another brand to use on this engine? Any help or information you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You need to be more specific as to what gasket you are using and what you are thinking of.

I see Milodon offers three oil pan gaskets that may be applicable to the conversation here. Two LA's and one Magnum,

Of the two LA's one is for the 318/340 pans and the other is for the 360 pan. They do not interchange.

The Magnum one is listed as for "Chrysler 360 (1992-2003 Magnum Only)" which is not entirely correct, it should fit all magnums.

But basically, the gasket needs to match the pan. Here's a good thread with pictures to show what's happening.

I had overlooked the two notches at the timing cover when I put an LA pan on my Magnum. I ended up flattening the notches with a hammer and dolly to essecially remove the notches. I was able to use the modern one piece gasket effectively after that.

Thank you both. I'm assuming it is running the LA style gasket as the pan is made for a LA 360 swap. I bought the vehicle with this current setup and haven't pulled the pan yet. Based upon the link Sniper posted I'm willing to be something was missed when mine was installed. So, that leads to the next question. What brand of gasket is good? Is Milodon Gasket good or should I go with another brand. Some people say the Milodon Gasket is fine while others say use something else. What is your thoughts?
