Will the front pullies,a/c and water pump from a 318/340 fit a magnum engine?

If you switch the timing cover and all plus I think I had to modify one of the bolt holes on a magnum head, theyre on a differnt plane and less of them so you might have to grind one of them away. On the other hand it is very easy to use the magnum serp belt set up in an old car, the PS hoses usually screw right in the back of the pump, the AC just needs lines made at a local NAPA or something and hook up the existing clutch wire. One heater hose needs extended and maybe a couple other little things I can't remember

You'll need a 45 degree fitting in the intake manifold for the water pump bypass hose.

Everything changed over, I can take a pic of mine if you like. The later harmonic balance won’t work, pully is made into it

Only the last 2-3 years, I know that 98 versions still have the damper and pulley as seperate pieces but somewhere around 00-01 they went to integral pulley. My 01 Durango had the integral pulley as did the replacement '00 360 did. But not all magnum 360s had that

The pulley is separate

Yes I know, the meaning of later

MagnumSwap.com is full of good information, don’t know which oil pan you’ll be using but pay close attention to that section or you’ll have an Exxon Valdez experience under the car…DAMHIK…. whiney

...this is the most recent and most relevant thread I could find on the topic, and have a quick clarification question about bolting an LA 360 car oil pan up to a magnum block: is swapping out the timing cover for an LA unit 100% required in order to bolt up an LA pan to a magnum engine? Sounds like it is...and if that's the case then I think that means the magnum water pump and serpentine setup cannot be used either...hmmmm...

I've seen a few LA oil pans with Magnum water pump and pulley setups. Just saw one in a 68 Barracuda this weekend at a car show.

Basicly the only difference between covers is the magnum cover has no place for a mechanical pump, maybe timing marks too. I have the later rear sump magnum pan on my 340 for racing and put the moroso 340 pan on the magnum. All it takes is a little ingenuity.

No you don't need to swap the cover. The difference is all in the front of the oil pan. If you are using a magnum pan use the magnum pan gasket. LA pan, use the LA pan gasket. You can't use a magnum pan on an LA 318 or an LA 318 pan on a magnum. The rear main cap seal is different. The magnum is the same as the LA 360 main cap seal.

alright good - I didn't want to swap over to an LA cover, and I have another idea on how to seal the pan, but it's good to know the LA gaskets will work. Thanks all

So if I understand correctly: LA engine can use the magnum serpentine belt system and what is needed from the magnum: alternator and a/c compressor (and pulleys of course), belt tensioner, water pump w/pulley (or just pulley possibly?), balancer pulley (or does one need the balancer too?)? Power steering and pulley (if power steering car) or if non power steering, make some idler pulley? Everything else can be from the LA?

I ask because I would like to use the serpentine system on a stock looking 71 318, just without power steering. I would like to have the alternator on drivers side and a/c unit on passenger side.

You can put the LA stuff on a magnum using the LA timing cover and water pump. You can not put the magnum stuff on the LA without the heads, timing cover, water pump and intake manifold. You will need the magnum alternator, compressor, the early magnum crank pulley, and power steering pump bracket. I just used the whole pump and bracket assembly. You can use the LA balancer if you have the early (pre 2000?) magnum crank pulley or you can use the late one piece magnum balancer on a 318 or any other internally balanced crankshaft.
