PAINT QUESTION - 04/22/22 02:52 AM

Can you still buy acrylic enamel paint? I need to spray a place on one of my Magnums, but it's enamel.

Thanks

Like the old PPG type single stage?
Like lacquer paints, most shops no longer will stock older enamels.
But that's not to say they can't be ordered.

PPG Delstar acrylic enamel has been discontinued from what I was told last time I tried to buy a can of black.

Most single stage paint systems are acrylic urethane now and should work if available in the color you need and available at your local paint supplier. The links above for AE paints like TCP are good if they have your color match as well.

I bought some last year - Axalta Nason Ful-Cryl acrylic enamel. Semi-local auto paint store was able to mix my F5 green right there, while I waited.

I used to buy Dupont's Centari locally but now I have to go out of town to find it. Dupont killed their sales by not allowing dealers to sell other paint brands in their stores. If they wanted to sell Dupont paint they couldn't sell any other brand there. This was years ago, don't know if that's still their way of thinking. I know a number of body men that can't spray Centari, they were trained on basecoat/clearcoat and have no idea how to lay down single stage Acrylic enamel.

Are you spraying a small spot or a whole fender? Paint technology has come a long way since the days of Centari.

Repairing a spot under the rear window, usual rust post. And maybe the drivers' door.

Paint technology may have come a long way but paint longevity has not. I've painted cars 30 years ago with Centari with hardener and the paint still looks great today. Try that with today's paint technology.
