Carburetor Doesn't Fit Engine - 12/29/21 02:41 PM
Good morning. I have a stock cast 1971 intake and my 4737 Carter AVS with a car gasket 60123 rocks on top of the 53 choke of my 1970 Plymouth GTX. Any ideas now to fix this? I have a N96 hood.

got a picture? holley choke mechanisms are different than carters. thick insulator gasket may help.

Please show us a picture of where the clearance problem is. I think the 4737 carburetor is the original carb on a 1970 440 with a 4-speed, so it "should" fit....but apparently isn't.

He says he has a 71 intake, not sure if that should matter though.

I suspect he has the wrong choke housing. I believe he needs the one that was flat on top, but probably has one with the slight bulge. If that is right, he needs to lift the carb off the intake about a 1/4" or replace the incorrect parts.
The choices are, the correct choke with the flat plate, or the thicker carb gasket, or the AVS with the extended throttle shafts.
