Carter choke pull off and thermostat on an Eddy AVS2?

Carter choke pull off and thermostat on an Eddy AVS2? - 12/26/21 03:15 AM

I have an 800cfm AVS2 carb, manual choke. I'm wondering if I can add a Carter choke pull off and thermostat to mimic the factory 70/71 setup. Has anyone tried this? I'm not sure why but Edelbrock says that you can't add an electric choke to their manual choke AVS2s. They seem to have the same brass plug as the AFBs (not just leaded over) and the bosses are there where the pull off should mount. Can I run the pull off to ported vacuum and bypass the choke port? Both the pull off and thermostat are reproduced. I might have a hard time with the choke shaft lever, not sure how compatible the newer and older shafts are.

Thanks

i did it to a 1407. don't see any reason it can't be done to a 800. i put factory choke parts on the carb in the photos to use on a stock iron intake. also changed out the primary throttle shaft.

Is there any reason to change the throttle shaft other than cosmetics? I'm not going for full OE, I just want a non-electric choke. Kickdown and throttle linkage were working well enough as-is.

i had a shaft from a junk carter carb and didn't want to use the edelbrock adapter. i wanted to mimic the appearance of a stock carb.

I modified my manual-choke AVS2 to look like the original AVS on my '68:

Shaved the Eddie tag
Tapped choke pull-off holes & installed repro pull-off unit
Changed inlet fitting

The pull-off rod & choke rod differ from OEM, as does the arm on the primary shaft, IIRC.
Since it never sees cold temps I left the choke disconnected.
Might revisit that at some point

to hook all the stuff up to a stock intake then all mopar factory choke parts make it very easy. the cross shaft that connects both sides is longer on factory than edelbrocks. i had donner parts and basically i just copied a factory install. it works.

Does anyone reproduce the shaft? I have the triangle shaped piece for the end of the choke rod, and it looks like both the vacuum and mechanical pull offs are repopped.

to the best of my knowledge the cross shaft is unique to the factory avs. i had some spare parts and that made conversion simpler.
