Manual Steering box and Borgeson 11/16-36x3/4 - 12/14/21 11:55 AM

Hello,

Will remove my power steering and bolt an old manual alum box in my Satellite -68.

Was there different input shafts in the manual aluminium boxes? If just one, would a Borgeson part nr 012564 work best? Splines 11/16-36x3/4.

Can my my own adapter in a smal Lathe in my garage, recently bought a mill to.
Thanks for reading!

I believe the manual steering boxes were 3" or 4" shorter (maybe more, don't remember for sure anymore) then the power steering boxes. You have to make up the difference between the box and the steering column.

Yes I know and did write that I will make my own adapter with a Lathe and mill.

The question was about the Borgeson splines and diameter?
Maybe this question should have been asked in the race forum?

I would like to just buy a Borgeson universal joint. Just so I buy the correct one.
Already have an old manual steering box. Should the shaft be 11/16 or 3/4 diameter on the outside of the splines?

According to the Firmfeel adapter, it should be a 3/4-36 splines?

Borgeson has that info in their catalog.

https://www.borgeson.com/catalog.html#

They also clearly state "The 5/8”-36 Chrysler is not interchangeable with 5/8”-36"

From what I've seen, the Mopar spline has one spline not cut into the shaft, so the U joint also has to have that matching missing spline. That spline change on the Mopar shafts was to keep everything in alignment. The generic u joint has all the splines cut. Gene

how would you cut the splines in a lathe? mopar performance still sells the adapter p4510637, also late model "B" vans had them stock with manual steering

thanks Gene ! bow
nothing a trip to the bridgeport won't fix.
i ran into a similar problem with the splines on a mopar steering wheel one time, but i forget what wheel i was going to put on what car.
i solved that problem by using a dremel tool and removing the master [uncut] spline. it didn't take much, as the splines are not very deep.
a dremel tool may even be the answer to the steering box master spline.
