Anybody have Magnum 500s from Rev Wheels?

Anybody have Magnum 500s from Rev Wheels? - 12/06/21 01:52 AM

I have a show set of wheels for my car, the original 14” road wheels. I need a set of go wheels that aren’t too crazy for a stock 69 gtx. The originals are bent so I’m thinking something like this will fit the bill. Even if you have a different style I’d like to hear some feedback on their quality.

Hi,

I have a set of 17x8's installed on my Cuda. Bought them around 2 years ago and they've held up fine. They are clearcoated, so they don't need to be polished and initially I was concerned that the coating might discolor or chip because of heat and brake dust. Hasn't been a problem yet, I just occasionally clean them with some soapy water or a detail spray.

The wheels that you're looking at (15x7 with 4.5 inch backspace) and should be fine for most set ups, but depending on your tires you'd better check clearances before doing anything. I'm running P235\55R17 tires all around and I ran into a clearance problem with the front tires and the back edge of my front fender lips when I turned the steering wheel to full lock. Not the fault of the wheels, but I wish that I had known that before installing them.

I think these wheels are a great alternative to the American Racing VN500 or the US Mags Bandit U109. One other nice thing about these wheel is the hub diameter. I measured mine at 2.868 inches which is close to the Mopar hub diameter of 2 13/16 inch. I use some plastic hub spacer rings to make up the difference and now have hub-centric wheels. Having hub centric rims will simplify your wheel balancing options greatly.

Hope this helps

Thanks, that’s a lot of good info. Appears the tires would be maybe a half inch bigger so shouldn’t be an issue, or some are basically spot on the same as the repopulate redlines I have now.

I’m also looking at these

I’d like a black center better, but get into the same back order malaise as the rev wheels. Did confirm Holley won’t charge until ship,so that’s a plus. I don’t need them until spring anyway. I could probabaly live with the gray. Need to look closer at the width and see if it could be an issue.

Been trying to get tire rack on the phone about the lugs, also sent them and American racing an email to see what they take. Still have the left hand thread studs, so that’s a consideration on what can be had or change the studs.

Hi,

Be safe and pull one of your wheels and check the backspacing. If I remember correctly, the backspacing on the Road Wheels is around 3.75 - 4 inches. So more back spacing may cause rubbing on the inner wheelwell or frame when the steering wheel is turned at either extreme. My rubbing was caused by the fact that my tires were (a) bigger in diameter, (b) much wider than the stock 14 x 7 Road Wheels that were on my Cuda. It may be worth your while to buy or borrow one of those wheel simulators or mock up something of your own. I wish that I had, but that's water under the bridge now.

Good point about the lug nuts: the wheels won't care about LH or RH studs, but you may only be able to find lug nuts that work with RH studs. I know that I have 1/2 inch RH thread studs and my lugs have conical seats (which is like the Road Wheels), but the lugs have 3/4 inch hex heads instead of the 13/16 hex heads like the OEM wheels. I believe that the smaller hex head is necessary because the lug nuts for the Rev wheels sit inside circular bores (about 1 inch dia.) unlike the Road wheels where the lug nuts sit out in the open near the wheel center.

Good luck and hope you find something that you like. Any more questions, just let me know.

The repop road wheels have 3.75 listed for back space. Most everything I’m considering has 4.

My repop ralley wheels are 15x8 with large bolt pattern 5 on 4.5 inch
And are backspace is 4.5 inches.
I have some Ram Charger that were made for 3 to 4 years and they stopped. Threy also are 15x8 but have a 4.25 inch backspace.largThe Ram Charger ran I think 33 inch tires and have the tabs for dog dish caps. Them form e Ram Charger ones look just like the 15x8 Super Coupe but the coupe don't have the tabs for dog dish caps. That is an easy way to tell them apart
