Locktite on caliper bracket bolts

Locktite on caliper bracket bolts - 11/21/21 09:36 PM

I'm assembling the rear disc brakes on my 8-3/4. It's a kit from Dr Diff. His instructions say to add red Locktite to the caliper bracket bolts. Just wondering what everyones opinion is on this. The caliper brackets are aluminum. I always thought the red Locktite needed heat to be removed. Is this the best choice for aluminum? I've got blue I could use too. I just don't want to damage the aluminum brackets when taking it back apart in the future. Maybe it's not an issue but I just wanted to ask.

You are correct both red and purple locklite require heat for removal. Another option is to use blue as it doesn't require heat but will hold it.

I use red all the time and never had to use heat to remove it. shruggy

I would follow the instructions from Dr Diff. He knows his stuff and the bracket bolts aren't removed often anyway for many brake systems.

Same here on red Loctite. The most times that I have had to use heat to remove a fastener is when someone uses the brown Loctite........................oops someone just informed me that's not brown Loctite....they said that's RUST blush laugh2

I'm dumb. Had a brain fart. The brackets that attach to the housing are aluminum but there aren't any threads in them. The threads are in the steel brackets. I assembled them with red loctite.
