Windshiled Replacement - Gone Bad ?? - 11/19/21 03:21 PM

So, on my 06 Magnum RT AWD, decided to get the windshield replaced - was so pitted up, when sun shown thru, you could almost see nothing ! Also had a small crack . . . took to same shop I have been going to for YEARS . . . get car back - there is a CREAK coming from passenger side . . . go back, and they stuff some "foam" down between windshield and dash . . . . NOPE, creak still there ! Wait a week . . . finally get appointment to have them R&R windshield . . . get it home and into warm garage for the day, take it out for short trip - CREAK IS STILL THERE !! . . . I know they do many many windshields, and have always been fair with me. . . . but this is driving me NUTS !!

Anyone else have issues with windshield replacement ???

Ok, Rant off . . .

Mark,

-update . . . was back to shop, they got it all fixed now ! . . .

took installer for a ride along, he placed some "foam" between dash & windshield at spot that was creaky . . . not really how I would have fixed it. But think that the replacement windshield is a touch out of shape in that one spot and rubs on dash . . . hence putting in the foam cured it. But if it comes back, they said they would entertain changing windshield again . . . but certain it is bonded and won't leak . . .

Could have been the new windshield wasn't quite right, or it could have been the car wasn't quite right and someone added extra urethane to the original windshield before you got the car, or it could be time has not been good to the car and someplace along the windshield is now flexing when it shouldn't be.

My glass guy would have pulled the replacement windshield, and investigated the car's windshield pinch weld. If it was OK, then he would have installed the glass with a little extra urethane between the glass and the pinch weld. The foam that was added was really a band aid, but as long as it works, doesn't make noise or leak, its OK as long as you are OK with it. Gene

I have owned the car since new. The glass shop has replaced a couple windshields in it over the years, never a problem before. They have been good to deal with over the years, and more than helpful to resolve the issue. I am ok with this, so long as creak does not come back. Lets face it, replacement products can vary in fit form function, compared to OE products. . . .
