Can I use hose / clamps for pwr steering?

I have a mismatched set of parts, and can't find the correct hose for the pressure side hose from pump to gear.
Wondering if I can cut the end off and connect another end with a short piece of hose and clamps.
I know the pressure is ~1000 psi, will this work?

Going from a 76 Saginaw box that needs a 0.3125 male with o-ring to a Borgeson box that needs 0.375 female flare
Can't find a stock hose in this configuration. Just need a short term solution before changing out the whole set-up.

That would be a hard no.

If the hose you are using has the female flare and the box requires an O ring fitting, there is a fitting that will solve that for you.

also if you are still stuck, find a local semi truck shop. they can usually make hoses. I had one make a hose out of the 2 I had so I could use the newer ps pump and my old steering box for the high pressure side.
5.9 mag motor to a 65 coronet.

More info, don’t have enough room for adapter on pump, so I need something that goes from hose to Borgeson adapter, or from hose to box without adapter.
I believe the Borgeson is 1.5 x 16 whatever that means

Not sure of Rock Auto & etc would have the hose & line, or something you could use.

Nothing is ever easy is it...........
The crappy part is I just need this to work for a couple of months.
Doing the Borgeson upgrade in preparation of swapping in a Gen3 motor.
Wanted to be able to drive the car and check out the steering while I gather parts.
All the steering hoses will need to be redone again.

Looks like I'll see if I can find a local place to swap/convert my old hose to fit.
Just hate throwing money at this, but I'm sure a couple of months will be longer.......

I'm confused. Do you need to adapt the pump end or the box end? If there is no room at the pump end, use the hose that fits the pump and adapt the box end.

BDW - where are you in Florida? I can give you a reference or two of places to go that make hydraulic hose assemblies. The suggestion earlier about going to a heavy truck parts place is the ticket. I'm in this industry, & there are some great places all over Florida.

There might be another option, the plug that screws into the pump housing Is removable.
Can I just replace this receptacle with an older version that matches the hose end?

When I say plug, there's a sleeve that screws in to the Saginaw housing, then the hose screws into that.

I guess I have a 76 up version that takes a lip with o-ring.
If I could find a 70 version that accepts the inverted flare style?

The female hole in the P.S. box is 16 millimeters in diameter. The thread pitch is 1.5 millimeters distance per thread. The large side of the adapter, pictured, threads into the ps box. The Borgeson box requires an adapter that either seals with an inverted flare at the bottom of the hole, or a flanged gasket/o-ring at the mounting surface.

Take a close look at the parts required at the Borgeson website, and then take a look at the adapters they offer. Keep in mind the adapter you require, or a pressure hose, might be found at a wrecking yard. The ps box that Borgeson uses comes from the Jeep Cherokee, or so I'm led to believe.

Easiest thing to do would be to aquire a hose that fits the box and a hose that fits the pump, install both, lay them next to each other in the car, mark them where they need to go together (include the clocking) and take the hoses to a hydraulic hose or Parker fitting store and have them biold a hose, or slice them together with the proper fitting.

Yes, but pay attention to the size of the internal hole. It determines the flow rate of the pump. Too low of a flow rate for that ps box and it'll let you know.

As was mentioned find a hydraulic hose shop around you and see if they have anything to solve the problem. Keep in mind if you need something that is not made you can cut two fitting in half and weld them together if a adapter is not available or you have space/clearance issues.

Give Mancini a call? I got the hose and fittings from them to make this. Only thing they didn't have was the 16mm inverted flare to -6AN for the Borgeson box - got that from Summit. Lines are PTFE and the fittings are specific to that type of hose. I think They're Fragola Real Street.

That's what I plan to do if/when I get the mag engine & power steering pump swapped into my 72 pickup.

I got that plug from the junkyard from a similar year ('72), and it looks identical to the one I took out of the '99 magnum PS pump (except for the hose threads, of course). So now I should be able to use my original '72 ps hose, with the magnum ps pump.

There should be a shuttle/spool behind it, with shims to set the pump pressure.

Beat me too it. My local NAPA can make hoses too.

I'm definitely not going to recommend it, but in my super broke days I used barb fittings and hose clamps on the high pressure side of the rubber section of a power steering hose before on a '68 300 and it didn't come apart in years of driving.
