727 ID help needed - 09/10/21 04:14 PM

Hello. I’ve done many searches and cannot find a definitive answer, so I thought I’d post.

I just pulled the engine and transmission out of a 1970 Cuda 440-6, a real V code car. The engine is not original, which we knew, and I do not believe the transmission is either.

Assuming the last six numbers in the pic should match the VIN, they do not. The car’s VIN ends in 146520.

Just want to be sure. Also, can anyone tell me what it might be out of, assuming it’s not the original 727 to the car? Thanks in advance.

Look on the pan rail on the drivers side just below the shift lever; the part number will be stamped there. Post the number here.

OC identifies a '70 car built at the Jefferson plant. Probably a C-body.

Thanks for the info so far.

I’m not near the transmission at the moment, I won’t be until Monday unfortunately. I will get pics and post them at that time.

Can any other info been given from the picture?

And am I correct the last six digits should match the VIN, if it happened to be the original transmission?

Thank you.

Yes, the last digits stamped on the passenger side bellhousing should match the VIN.

Jefferson Ave. DETROIT, MI (the "0C" from your stamping) only built Chryslers & Imperials for 1970

the part number on the other side will tell you if it is from a 383 2bbl up to 440HP
