Power seat bolts in a junkyard car.

Gonna pull some late model seats for my 74 Satellite.

Power seat is moved back over the bolts that hold it in and the junkyard won't allow you to take a battery in the yard.

I have spent long amounts of time surgically removing the seats from tracks and disassembling the track in the junkyard but I am not that into it this time.

I can get to the track motor connector. Anyone try a couple of 6V lantern batteries or possibly direct wiring a 18V drill battery to the drive motor?

Other ideas that work for you?

The small jump boxes will fit in your tool bag and they almost always allow them in anyway. It's what I use in this situation. I am referring to the ones that are slightly longer than your hand.

Cant they get someone out there to help you?

About the only junk yards around here these days are pull a part places. With those, you pay the entry fee, and have what ever tools you carried in, unless someone will lend you a tool you need. You are pretty much on your own getting your parts off and through the office to pay for them. The only help you get from the staff is what row the car your looking for is in, and what the part will cost you when your ready to leave.

get one of the smaller ones from matco/napa or mac. they will hide real well. make sure you make/take some jumper wires with you.

Jumper leads, 18v power tool battery. Motor will just run a bit quicker. I have also cranked cars in JY with jump box to do compression test before buying motors.

What this guy said. Make some leads from the negative and pos on your battery and hook up to seat. Ive even seen one of those Milwaukee batteries' jump a dead car, they will power a seat easily if the motor is any good. Let us know!

when i disassemble salvage yard doors in the bodyshop. i use the battery from my cordless tools to power the windows up and down for access to the bolts.
the seat motor would easily be powered by those batteries with jumper wires.
i would suggest doing tests with your cordless batteries at home first to be sure you are jumping the batteries at the correct terminals to power things. trying to figure this out at the salvage yard could be a frustrating process.

Like somebody said about the only help you will get is where the car is. I would take the motor off but the bolts for the motor are under the seat and the drive ends are enclosed.

I don't use a jump box and hadn't realized how small they have gotten. Wow.

I have a dewalt drill that snapped the handle off. I think I will use the battery pack to power the seat. If that won't work I'll get a jump box.

It's raining for the next few days but I will let you know how it goes on Friday.

Thank you for the advice.
I took a motor connector off another car and plugged it into a 20v drill battery. It moved the wrong way at first and I reversed the wires.
It worked like a charm.

I was skeptical about using a 20v battery on a 12v motor but it worked great and no damage.
