Smallblock 727 ID - 03/03/21 02:43 AM

I took the following numbers off of the drivers' side pad on the case:

PK4130705 6401 4085

What means this ? Does it say what vehicle it came out of ?

Nope.

You are looking at the part number / date / assembly number side.

Look on the passenger side of the bell for a partial VIN.

If you cross the part number to the parts manual it would tell you motor and body type most likely.

PK4130xxx is way to recent to have been behind a 340. Maybe a 360 in a 78-79 truck or big car..

Well.
I just went out there with a flashlight and looked again.
I don't see any other numbers at all on the case, and the case is sparkly clean (it's just an empty case).
Hmm.
I was told it came from a 1979 Lil Red Express, but I sure don't know.

google searched and came up on moparts dated 01/16/2007, torqueflite trans number . it came up as 79 truck 360 w/o lockup. could be a lre.

Looks like it's a 79 transmission for pretty much every non lockup application car or truck including lil red express.

OK, thanks much Gentlemen !

That's good enough for me.

I have that truck, it's a '79 LRE, and was told the original motor/tranny were gone. Rearend was swapped out too.

But the tranny case came with the truck and the guy made a big deal about it.

The hilarious part is, the case is broken. I can guess what happened to the original 360.

I'm doing some garage cleaning and kind of wanted to throw it out anyway.

So again, thanks for the ID help !

Is the case repairable? Im not sure if I'd really care or bother to keep what should be original transmission around if it's not usable. Lil red engines don't have the vin stamped on them, I don't know about the transmissions.

Practically speaking, it's not repairable. And with no VIN numbers, there is nothing actually tying this case to my truck.
Even though it is certainly plausible that the guy was not lying and this did come from my truck, I don't care.

4130705 is from a '79 HP 360 non-lockup. Built February 5, 1979.

someone always comes along and produces a listing of vin/part numbers for the things we use. .Has anyone come up with a list like this for the 727's. Usually are able to include year manufactured and even the vehicles they were in.
