1964 Dodge Polara side trim colour

Hi,

a friend of mine has a 1964 Dodge Polara. The side trim on the quarterpanel has no colour in the very end
I searched for survivors and found different results.

Does anyone know if it should be painted black til the end or not?

They were painted same as the rest of the insert area.
That red car is nice, exactly like the neighbor had 40-some years ago.

Look at both sides of the brown car - one side is painted to the end the other is not. Looks wore off.
