Dash ignition switch - 67 65 different years? - 02/10/21 03:53 AM

Hey all,
Thanks for looking - I'm going to my favorite Mopar salvage yard on Thursday morning to pull some spare ignition switches because the ones in my 67 and 65 Satellites sometimes get worn out and, well.. it's a good excuse for going up there to wander around old Mopars and getting spare parts.
I called the yard owner today to set up the visit. He is very Mopar knowledgable, and tells me I better know which ignition switch I need cuz there are different ones..

I think he's just blustering.. that's kind of his style - he likes to talk a lot. Or maybe what he really means is to beware of the years *after* 1967..?

Because what what he said is not my experience -
Whenever I've needed a new ignition switch (twice in 20 years now!), I just go look for 64-65-66-67 Plymouths or Dodges from a salvage yard.
I find one with the key in the ignition (or look for one in the glove box), spin off the front trim ring, push the switch back through the hole, pull it out from under the dash, and unplug it.
I use the key to switch cores with my original key, and reinstall in my car..

I've never had an ignition switch NOT interchange with my 65 or 67...
I'm not missing something am I?
How about Chrylsers? Are their ing switches different from Plym Dodge?

Thanks,
- Art

'60-'68 ignition switches are the same, '69 is a one-year-only before they moved the switch to the column.

I know it's more fun to hunt one down in a yard, but I believe you can still get complete ignition switches at a parts store. Much more comfortable at this time of year! IIRC, the lock cylinder portion is the same from 1947-1968.

Perfect answers, thank you both, and it confirms my recollection that a '68 would work too.

Yeah, I know how easy it would be to pick one up online, but you nailed it -
I really just want to get the heck out of the house and see something other than the four walls of my own garage.
.. and this yard tends to have some interesting stuff...

I hope to have some photos to share in a few days.

thumbs LOL... Jack Forkey? His and Eric Brown's yards are both right in the bull's eye for lake effect snow...

The yard I'm heading to is about 4 hours east of them near Stillwater.. much closer to me.
.....and I've postponed my visit due to the frigid 2F forecast... I'll wait il it warms up closer to 30.

Cheers,
