69 B-Body K Frames - 02/08/21 07:12 PM

Hey guys, I'm not a B body expert, and I have a question. my friend has a 69 Roadrunner, and he has a few issues with the K frame in the car. He's considering another one, but when we went to the salvage yard all of the 69 models we saw had the 2 triangular holes in the bottom where a sway bar goes through, one car even had the bar in it.
His car has the bar that mounts to the front edge of the K member.
I wondered if he had an earlier K frame or was their variations in 69? He also thinks be it a 318 or 440 the K Member is the same.
What says you guys?

You can put in the 70 model K with the pass through bar. Gives more clearance for installing big brakes. I did that on my 69 rr years ago when I changed to the 11.75 factory brakes off the later cars. V8 K bar is what you want. Others are a slanty or hemi. Or look for an early bar and keep the factory sway bar he has.

Thanks for the answer,I guess I'm a little confused, the 69 models we looked at had through the K frame bar,(one was a Wagon with drums but I doubted it was a swap... but his 69 doesn't. Are you saying his is 69 issue?

The bar with the raised up middle is factory 69. Bar through the k is 70.

Those are good K frames to buy since you can use either anti-sway bar setup. The factory switched to the through style K frame during the '69 year. Typically they are drilled in both places so you can use a front mount bar or the bar that runs thru the center of the K frame. The thru style is better so if you can find all the parts to switch then do it. If you can find K frames in the wrecking yard with the anti-sway bars and the matching lower control arms you should buy them. Those parts are getting harder to find.

I thought about grabbing a few of them since the yards days are numbered. And like I said, that Wagon is on its side, easy to get that way.

Wow, really amazing that car that old still in a modern junk yard. If you look at the LCA, you will see a different location of the sway bar tab on a 69 versus a 70 up.

Just take a careful look at any K frame before you go to all the work of pulling it off. If it isn't dented or busted up then you can usually sell them for a nice chunk of change. Lower control arms with the factory anti-sway bar tabs are also worth good money since they are getting hard to find.

Its actually an OLD junkyard, I'd say nothing new has been brought in for 20 years.

Best thing about atleast one of them, a 69 front end just slice off without and engine, we was actually able to just flip it over, one side of suspension is gone, so it'd not be too bad to just get the one, the others a little more effort.

I did a little video of my first time in the yard, and I didnt even film it all, you see a Coronet thats easy to get to though towards the beginning
