'66 Dodge Coronet strut rod sleeve question

Ok, so I'm working on the front end of my 1966 Dodge Coronet, and I bought a new set of bushings with new sleeves for the strut rods.

The old sleeves slip on and off easily.

Maybe because they are old and worn???

However, the new sleeves look like they need to be pressed on.

Or they are the wrong sleeves?

Not sure!

Since I don't quite understand what the purpose of the sleeves are, can someone tell me that pressing them on is normal?

In other words, are the sleeves supposed to be tight on the strut rods or loose?

It's just a spacer so that when you torque down the nut it keeps the proper distance for the bushings to do their job.

Those two do NOT look like the same diameter where the sleeve should slip on
If they are different I wouldn't change them, get the correct part

Yeah, agreed.

But it is not that easy...

I contacted Summit where I bought the kit shown (Prothane 4-1202-BL Strut Arm Bushing Kit) and Summit said it was correct kit for my car.

Then I contacted prothanesuspensionparts.com and their response was that the 4-1207-BL was correct.

I'm gonna order the 4-1207-BL, and see if they are what I need.

But the question still remains, should the sleeves be TIGHT or LOOSE??

If the 4-1207-BL arrive looking closer to the original, I'll go with those.

I'm thinking they, the sleeve, should slide on and off the tip of the strut rod, not press on

even if they were a press fit, there is WAY too much diameter difference from the threaded area [that appears your sleeves at least start on] to the shaft area the sleeves need to fit on.
pressing on the sleeves you have will only destroy them, and possibly score up the rod.
i would go with the kit prothane [?] suggested.

They should slide on.

I have a 1966 Dodge Coronet 2 door Deluxe Sedan that was a six cylinder 3 on the tree originally, I replaced the K member with one from a 1968 V8 B body to use the later headers and to slide the motor back into a stock location. I also replaced the front drum brakes with a disc brake kit from U.S.S.B.C. and replaced all the wear items, ball joints, bushing and so on. I don't remember having the same issues with those bushing on that car that your having now on yours
