69 Plymouth VIN vs Selling Date.

69 Plymouth VIN vs Selling Date. - 11/30/20 01:28 PM

I’m looking at a 69 Sport Satellite that , to me, has an odd situation with the VIN and the purchase date. There is a document in the original papers that the car was purchased and taken possession of on 10/7/68. However the serial number is high as if it was sold in 69. It’s a Lynch Road car. Can anyone shed light on this. Just not what I’ve been used to seeing over the years. Radiator support attached.

Thanks.

Sorry guys. I figured it out. It was an order form dated 10/7/68. Build date on the car is 1/20/69.

so A, B, C, & on would indicate the month [A= January] and 9 is the year obviously ?
if so, i just learned my charger was a February [2] 69 build.
Thank You sir ! you just taught an "old dog" something new. [or i had "forgotten" what i knew in a previous time period. biggrin]

Month of build is as follows: 1 - 9 = January to September, A - C = October to December

The VIN does still seem to be a bit out of line with the 1/20 SPD. 453378 would seem to align more with a July build.

A9 458373

A = Lynch Rd. DETROIT, MI assembly plant
9 = 1969 Model Year
458373 = VIN sequence #

for some reason, the (120-SPD) Monday January 20, 1969 "Scheduled" Dodge & Plymouth B-bodies at Lynch Rd. received "458xxx" VIN sequence numbers instead of more appropriate numbers in the "212xxx" range
