Crimp fitting adapter ferrules

Crimp fitting adapter ferrules - 11/28/20 04:28 PM

I'm assuming that there is such a thing.

Scenario... I am running an 18G ground wire from the tach to the engine block, or battery negative. I need a larger ring for the bolt to go through.

I think that there is an "adapter" that will slide into the 14G terminal and allow for 18G wire to be snugly crimped in versus REALLY crimping the 14G terminal onto the 18G wire.

Sure I could look for and buy the correct ring terminals and but, geezus, my terminal box is already full as hell without getting a bunch more ring terminal sizes that I will maybe use every 5 years.

I've been looking online but haven't come up with what I think that I might need.

Thanks

i have a bunch of 18ga ring terminals for 1/4" and 5/16" bolts.
will either of those sizes work ?
i haven't looked into whether an uninsulated 18ga butt connector would fit into a 12ga ring or not. [you would have to cut it in half to get the right length.
in any event, if i have something that will work, or i can whip something up, PM me your address and i'll drop a couple in the mail for ya. gratis.

Just stick another piece of wire in the terminal along with your 18g.

I'm actually ok with what I have going on. I wasn't sure if the item that I'm talking about even exists, but if they do I'll pick up a few.

Thanks for the offer.

I just strip extra length and double it up into the lug.

This ^ is one option. If you have something else that needs an 18ga ground, put it in the same terminal.

2 18ga equals 1 14ga.

Yes, they do make ferrules just for that purpose, and as said earlier, you can also fold the wire in half to double up it's size, or add a second wire and cut it off. These are all approved methods.

Just solder it up, I never just crimp only

I've done this several times using brass, or better copper. cut, drill and, bend the spade portion up slightly for easier access.
pm me if you need one made up in the spirit of giving.

i did a test fit yesterday, and an 18ga butt connector, the kind with no insulation, fits perfectly inside a 12ga ring terminal.
you can then crimp, solder and heat shrink the connection with ease.
