IIRC Resto Rick...CALL for request, don't shop "on-line" as he doesn't always list stuff, plus stuff listed is sometimes disco...

What is a K member coin?

Re: K frame coins - 10/12/20 12:24 AM

HI Gene, The "coin" is a factory/vendor added{as in welded on} metal tag with the last two digits of the K member part number.. Depending on the year/application the coin could be round or oval..Not all K members got the coin, most would have a modification like an added skid plate or a reapplication from the original intent... Fastmark, yes at one time RestoRick was selling the coins complete with the stamping for the application..I didn't realize he wasn't offering these anymore either..

Thanks for the explanation. Another thing to add to the list of "Mopar stuff I didn't know." The "didn't know list" is longer then the "did know list". Gene

This car came with a "90" on the coin.

Re: K frame coins - 10/14/20 01:14 PM

Actually most K-frames did not have a coin. I've probably had up wards of 50-60 K-frames over the years and only a few had a coin.
Did just sell a 1970 B frame with the 90 coin on it.

True. They started in 70. A friend has a Hemi Cuda and the coin was removed.

I was wondering what it was too. That makes cents now laugh

Re: K frame coins - 10/15/20 02:48 AM

Explains it on the 69 and older but I also have a lot of 70-72B and 70-74E without coins. Have always wondered why some got it but most didn't. I've even had/have ones with the skid plate and no coin. This one is from a 71 GTX and doesn't have a coin.

Re: K frame coins - 10/15/20 11:20 AM

And that is highly possible too. I’m not sure because I have not looked at all my parts cars but I bet I’ll find the same thing in my stash. I know my two AARs have the coin. My bird does and so does my 70 charger 440. I worked on an original challenger u code that had one but can’t remember what number it was. I’ll look. His has a skid plate. Not sure if it’s even a oem k frame or someone’s repop. I have not seen it.

Re: K frame coins - 10/20/20 07:30 PM

I checked my known cars and here what I have.
2 70 AAR with a.....52 coin
1 70 340 cuda(late) with.....52
3 70 440 b bodies with skid plate..... 79
1 70 440 cuda with skid plate.......77
1 70 Satellite 318 .....60

No coins on pre 70 cars and none on two 73 e bodies
No coins on my 318 e bodies.

Looks like 1970 was the only year that had confusing k frames.

Re: K frame coins - 10/20/20 10:56 PM

Interesting they break out 340 and T/A, probably skid plate is only on the Trans Am cars.
Would make sense in my case, guy I got my car from had parted out a T/A and threw many of those parts on this car.

Re: K frame coins - 10/20/20 11:06 PM

No 70 small block had the skid plate. My AAR don’t. No deep pan for a small block.

Re: K frame coins - 10/21/20 03:05 AM

Well, no small block had a deep pan from the factory that requires a skid plate on a 70 b or e. A 383 did not have a deep pan in 70. Those were the only k frames that should have the 52 coin for an ebody. They have been selling those skid plates for people to add on for a long time. It could be a factory mistake as well. A 52 coin on a skid plated k frame is not the normal. All three of my 52 coin cars are the original untouched k frames. I’ve not heard of any TA or AAR that are known to have skid plates. That would be an interesting question to ask the ebody crowd.

All my 52 coins are round.

Re: K frame coins - 10/21/20 10:34 PM

My 1/71 GTX has no skid plate or coin,I suspect the K may have been changed, the car was stuffed earlier in its life.

If the front of the K-frame is a stamped production date, that may help identify things.
