833 Questions

Will a Hurst Competition Plus shifter and rods from a normal B body 833 work on an 833 OD truck trans? Would I need to reuse the OD 3-4 rod or will the Comp one work as is? Any help appreciated.

The shifter will work as long as it has the same hair pin setup as factory.

Putting an OD in is a little more involved with modifying the rods and transmission levers.

If you know how to weld it's easy, it's a bit of a pain though.

Are you putting an OD in a B body or putting the shifter in a truck with OD?

Hoping to use the shifter in my truck. My factory shifter is worn and sloppy, I figured an upgrade to the comp plus would tighten things up considerably. PLUS, it comes with the pistol grip shifter I've been wanting to add as well!

It will work but you may need to make the 3-4 rod longer

Are you talking adjustment wise, or actually making the rod longer? Could I use the original 3-4 rod instead?

If you use the B body shifter mounting pad you wont have to do any thing at all. But if you used the raised bracket for the truck trans you may need to lengthen one or more rods if you run out of threads.

I looked up a picture of the shifter and if I got the right image, it sure looks alot like a stock shifter?

This is just me, but I would just re-build and re-grease the truck shifter (it is a Hurst shifter), cut the end off, weld on the pistol grip, and modify for shorter throws.

That's what I did to shorten the shifts on my current 833od in an E-Body and it's awesome. The throws are about 4 to 5 inches long, maybe less.........haven't driven it since last year.

What year is your B body? Pistol grip was 70 and that is not a match up to the truck. The OD Truck shifter was like the 68-69 B body shifter, with the addition of a grease fitting.

You could always rebuild the truck shifter. Or move the levers over from your truck shifter to your comp shifter. Not hard to do.

Compare your levers to see the difference.
