727 trans dipstick tube - 04/28/20 06:30 PM

Silly question, I have a '67 Coronet with a 440 and 727. I think the dipstick tube I currently have installed is the wrong one. No matter what I do it keeps leaking where the tube slide into the trans. I put a new seal in last week it started leaking a day later. When I had it out, I looked it over for any damage and could not find any. But I started looking around to day for a new tube and the ones for do not look like the one I have. So my question is will a tube from Mancini or Yearone fit properly even though they say for '68 and up?

The tube will often crack in the rolled groove where the O ring sits...real hard to see. RTV around the O ring will usually stop the leak.

The tubes differ with the bodies, the difference in the tubes is the bend, some come up behind the valve cover and others further out by the exhaust manifold.

yes check for cracks, all tubes are same diameter .some early ones had a "L" bracket on tube where it goes in tranny, 1/4" bolt to case, not sure what years, also if there is sideways pressure on tube (bent ) will leak

And IF you need a new one, or even a custom one, look up Masta Performance in Milford, MI. Dan Masta is the man - he is a longtime friend of mine & a really great guy. Tell him Eric sent you.

This is the type I have, it has a little "L" shaped foot on it, but my 727 doesn't have a hole to bolt it to the trans. I was wondering if this could be the problem, that the seal was not going into the trans far enough, even though it is pushed all the way in to it. I think I am just going to replace the tube and see what happens It's defiantly possible it's cracked, as I have replace the seal a couple times and it will eventually start leaking. I have checked the hole in the trans case for any burrs or scoring, but it is smooth and has no damage.
