'00 Dakota 5.9- no ground pulse to injectors UPDATE - 04/03/20 05:02 PM

So I finally had the truck towed home so I have more time to play with it. New cam sensor (pickup coil), new crank sensor, new fuel pump. Will run if you dribble gas into throttle body (neighbors probably not too happy with no exhaust wink ).
Has 50 or so PSI cranking at the rail, 12v at the injector but no ground pulse from PCM.
Anything else to check?
I'm thinking my used '01 Ram manual trans PCM has said farewell. work

Re: '00 Dakota 5.9- no ground pulse to injectors part 2 - 04/03/20 05:45 PM

Working on 2022 protos. 2001 is way before my time at Chrysler. But the basics are still the same. Causes of no injector pulse. It could be in theft mode , (skim). Its needs to see cam signal, some stuff will run with cam only. Some needs to see crank as well. If it has power to the injectors ASD is functioning. Have you scanned it for fault codes?

No codes. No anti-theft either. Swapped in engine, harness (and ignition switch since PO had removed it), and computer from my running, driving, but totalled '00 Durango. Dakota ran for several minutes then died. Already had the fuel pump on hand as a preventative measure since the truck had 250k on it.

Do you have another 5.2 or 5.9 OBDII PCM? I've run my 2000 5.9 with a '96 5.2 PCM just for a test.

Local pullaparts show several on hand. Probably give them a shot.

It's alive.... biggrin boogie
Went to one of the local pullaparts that showed 4 Rams, 1 Durango, and 3 or 4 Dakotas (wasn't holding my breath on a V8 Dakota though). My heart was just about down to my shoes when I found the last Ram and it had a PCM in it. Every single other one did NOT have a pcm other than an '03 Dakota QC they were just putting in line but it was a 4.7.with a manual trans. Guy at the counter said Chrysler products of all kinds were big sellers as far as PCM's went.
Muffler shop here I come. drive

Weird that it would fail at that time but I've seen weirder. Glad to hear you got it going! thumbs

28 years as a 'yota tech and never saw that before either, Jonesy. I know I'm getting old but all I can remember having to replace an ECM on a 'yota was 1 time on a Sienna van (mid-2000s?). Forget what it was doing but it still ran. Honestly don't remember if it was running bad or just setting a code/codes. work I even had several lightning-struck vehicles with multiple problems but the ECM was fine (both cars struck while driving shocked ).
I know I told you in a PM but thanks ever so much for your help. thumbs
Thanks to all who who offered suggestions. up
