Air grabber air cleaner

Air grabber air cleaner - 03/17/20 10:36 PM

I have always loved seeing a big orange oval air cleaner on top of a Mopar engine. I picked up a lid from Indy and I'm thinking about picking up a base. I know that the filters are expensive and that the K&N don't fit well.

This will go on my 72 Cuda which is basically a hot rod with a lift off 6 pack hood. Clearance won't be a problem.

The car is a 4 speed with a Victor intake so there is no problem with the kick down linkage hitting, perhaps just the throttle cable.

The question is should I look for one from a 440 or a 383?

Thanks

I may be wrong but I though it had to do with what carb you have so you get the right size opening for the carb top.

The 383 sits higher than the 440 if I'm not mistaken. The question is for suggestions as to what will clear the best, or what have you guys done that works. It's not about the size of the hole that the 4 barrel will take. It's kind of looking like a 383 base would be the way to go.

I don’t think there’s very much difference between the 2, definitely does look good though.

If you have a windshield wiper motor - it needs to be a three speed - the two speed sticks straight out while the three speed is on an angle.

Crap, I entirely forgot about the wiper motor. I have a 2 speed.

Hasn't there been a thread where it showed that a 2 speed would still clear?

edit... A quick look shows that some guys put a spacer between the grabber base and the carb.

A 2 speed wiper clears just fine on E bodies.

The carb openings are all the same size 1968 and newer 4bbl wedge engines. Small mouth AFB were all done except on street hemi.

A 440 base is lower to the engine.

I have 2-speed on my E-body, no issues.

you are mistaken
its the other way around
a 440 is a rb or raised block engine = lower aircleaner throat
a 383 is a b engine

Well, yes but I guess what I meant was the 383 base is physically taller than the 440 base.
