`70 Barracuda VIN ? - 02/23/20 05:10 PM

Helping a buddy build this car soon and noticed the low to me VIN # .

We were curious if this means its the 65th 1970 Barracuda built?

Re: `70 Barracuda VIN ? - 02/23/20 05:18 PM

technically, it is the 65th assigned VIN for 1970 from the Los Angeles assembly plant

it would've been scheduled for the first day of production, but it's actual build order would be difficult/impossible to determine without a lot more info, is there a fender tag pic you can share?

I can look and see if it's still there. Thanks

Sold new in Montana. No radio either, and not much else. Has wheel opening moldings from new.

Re: `70 Barracuda VIN ? - 02/24/20 06:43 PM

wheel opening mouldings were STANDARD on Challenger * they were DELETED on 340 (A66), 340+6 (A53) & late in the '70 model year HEMI cars

high-impact paint - that $14 just exceeded the budget! laugh2 *-* painted wheels & hub caps?

Re: `70 Barracuda VIN ? - 02/24/20 06:48 PM

14x5.0" Motor Wheel painted steel wheels dated June 30, 1969(only have two of the four) both with black and then body colour over them. Looking for the other two. Came with full wheel covers, I have them and 10 NOS ones!
Manual steering, of course.

Re: `70 Barracuda VIN ? - 02/24/20 06:50 PM

if the wheels were originally body color, then it was a hub cap car
if the wheels were originally black, then it was a full wheel cover car

3438 171 yellow alternator. A lot of the original parts on the car date in early September of 1969. Including the seat belts. The original door jamb sticker says 9-1969.

Re: `70 Barracuda VIN ? - 02/24/20 06:55 PM

They have original black paint and them the body colour over top. Must have been full wheel cover, then the owner painted the rims later. Was only ever licensed in Eureka, Montana. Spent 30 years in a wrecking yard near Polson, MT. where I got it from.

Another early L.A. car, also from Montana.

Re: `70 Barracuda VIN ? - 02/24/20 07:07 PM

the original wheels would've been painted black by Motor Wheel Corp.
if the car did not have wheel covers, the LA plant would've painted the face of the wheel body color

ALL the early L.A. made E Bodies that I have ever seen, all went to either Washington, Oregon, Idaho or Montana.

That’s an interesting observation.
In the Seattle area I’ve owned

Not an L.A. made car but still early.
A LOT of the early L.A. Barracuda's were M46 equipped. My L0E100076 is, so is my G0E101005. Both were sold new at S.L. Savidge in Seattle.

Re: `70 Barracuda VIN ? - 02/24/20 08:25 PM

BH23G0E100029 - WA window sticker (318 4-speed)
BP23G0E100030 - OR window sticker
BH23C0E100055 - OR window sticker
BH23G0E100090 - Craigslist in OR
JH23C0E100192 - in WA
BH23G0E100380 "limelight" was in Elko or Ely, NV in the '90s
JH23C0E100394 recent WA estate sale
BH23G0E100754 "Vitamin C" was in Elko or Ely, NV in the '90s (318 4-speed)

it makes some sense that these early VIN/built cars would be further away from LA to allow car to get to dealerships before the "official" on-sale date in late-September (early built & long shipping time)

Re: `70 Barracuda VIN ? - 02/24/20 10:33 PM

I looked today and no fender tag dangit, just radiator support and cowl stamp.
It is a red with black interior 318 console automatic.

Re: `70 Barracuda VIN ? - 02/25/20 07:12 PM

I wish I could find the sheet for my LA built car, but it was built in January of '70, sold March 7 of '70 according to paperwork I got when I bought in 1987. I would like to know where it was sold originally but Cali DMV said they destroyed all records prior to like 1980 I think she said. Mine is a 340 Limelight car, Barry had no info unfortunately.

That car is pretty much identical to car 50 that I posted the tag of. Two tone blue with white painted roof, with bench seat. Is your car still optioned that way?

Actual build days were not recorded.

C55 & H6B5, so this one did not come with the additional cost bench seat. ;-)
