W200 horn ring - missing parts - 02/19/20 08:06 PM

Hi
My '77 W200 truck is missing some parts in the horn ring. The big parts are there but someone has put screws where the isolators between the contact parts behind the push/horn pad are supposed to be. And ofcource cut the ground wire😂
I could needa pic and a description of how it is supposed to be. Shouldn't there be some rubber and maybe springs in there?
Thanks

Regular column. Steering wheel should be the same.

How about a pic of what you have, different years may be the same.

Tilt is a completely different column. It was a Saginaw built column.

Parts manual. Page 1114 shows the upper column and page 1164 shows the wheel with horn switch. These are reference only as the wheel photo is of a tilt wheel. The individual parts are listed below the photo.

Found this pic at Allpar. The three black plastic pieces seems to be what is missing. What is inside them? Springs?

All you need is the switch for your style wheels horn bad. I have a 1980 wheel in the shop. Three screws hold the switch to the wheel. Plug the wire on and snap the horn pad on. Someone made an abortion of yours.

Thanks!
Seems like the isolators/fasteeners are missing then. I wonder how they look like other than from top view.
Someone has definetly done some work in there😂

You have nothing missing just a switch that is been taken apart and improperly put back together. Basically junk. I think someone found a switch and was trying to adapt the wheel center cap to fit it. The standard column only had the switch and 3 screws to bolt it directly to the wheel. The isolation was built into the switch. On a tilt column you had a wave type spring washer that went against the wheel then the switch, then a plastic 3 eared insulator, and then 3 shouldered screws. I will post a 1980 standard wheel with a horn switch for a round center cap. I would give it to you and your horn will work, but your center cap wont fit.

First is tilt column. Second is non-tilt.

Here are 2 more pictures of what you need. You can see the 3 screws that go through the switch into the horn pad adapter. You would take this switch part number 2771534 and attach your horn pad ring to it. Then you would screw it down through the 3 other holes to the steering wheel. The horn pad adapter is different than yours as seem by the photo. Just google the part number and get your part.

Thank you so much for your help, Nitrousn and all👍 Your pics and descriptions were perfect😀
Guess what: I stumbled over a steering wheel from a 68 Charger in the parts pile and it had the switch I was asking about intact👍 Correct parts number, but has some cracks in the plastic. It is now installed in the W200 steering wheel and works as it is supposed to!
Here are a couple of pics of mine. You guys rock!

Good to hear. Use what you have for now and who knows one day you may stumble on a nicer one. For what it is worth that fix may out last the truck.
