seat backs

Was the plastic seatback piece an option or on some interiors only, or are mine just missing?
This is probably a dumb question but I have not seen it explained before.

I have a 71 340 demon and a 74 Challenger without the plastic seat backs but my 77 Sport Fury has them.
The Demon has had the bucket seats recovered at some point and the Sport Fury seems like it has had a color change but it could be the original bucket seats.

71 cars with buckets should have plastic seat backs, but there are early & late versions.

The plastic backs were phased out some time during the 1973 calendar year, but most '74 model year cars I have seen have the newer covers, no plastic backs.

I can infer that the 77 Sport Fury has earlier seats added then...

Oh, and the last 74 Challenger I had had an interior from a 70 SE car in it and so had the seat backs...

I have no personal experience with '77 seats, so I will not assume anything.

Photos may help at this point though.

Thanks again for your comments. I saw the repop seat backs for sale but the descriptions did not indicate what models should have them other that the late and early comment.
