Tricks?

I have a new set of insulators and clips installed into the shifter. Attempt to press the handle in but it is really tight...can get about 1/2 way...

dab of lithium grease help?

Try a .10 feeler gauge while pressing in the shifter.

On one side between the handle and the clip?

Actually a .010 feeler gauge. I typed it wrong.

The latch is on the drivers side.
