1998 Ram braking issue - 03/23/09 06:12 PM
My 1998 Ram 4x4 pulls hard to the left while braking. Something also feels kind of "clunky" in the front end. I don't see anything lose or bent thought. I thought it was a caliper sticking so I put on new calipers and pads. It stops better but still pulls. I'm not sure if being out of alignment can cause this or not? Going down the road at actaully drifts towards the right so it needs aligned but I'm thinking this braking issue is more than that. I've had cars way out of alignment and they've never pulled while braking. If anyone has any ideas on what to check I would appreciate it. When I can get some time off work I plan to have it aligned but that might be 2-4 weeks yet.

Check the bearing hubs, they can cause braking issues and cause a clunk.

Thanks guys. How do you check the bearing hubs? When I did the brake job I grabbed the wheel and moved it around to see if it felt lose but it was fine. The truck does have 130k+ miles on it by the way.

You replaced the calipers, now replace the hoses. One side has a restriction and isn't allowing full brake pressure to get to the caliper. The clunk could be a dozen different things. Hard to tell without actually checking it out.

That is an interesting idea. When we went to bleed it the passenger side appeared to have no flow. We did the driver side and after it was done then the driver side had flow. We then went and did the driver side again. I figured the fluid just took longer to get there because it had drained out but maybe there is a block. Thanks, I might try that.

I finally got the brakes fixed last night. I was indeed the rubber brake hose. It wasn't allowing the fluid out fast enough and causing the brakes to stick. Thanks for the help guys!
