looking for suggestions Dart tire size

Fellas, My buddy bought a plain Jane 72 Dart, It has rims and hubcaps so he bought a set of small bolt pattern 14" rallyes, but he is not sure what tire size he should go with. pics and tire size are being requested. i think he should staggar a little front to back. opinions and suggestions?

thank you, yes we know that. but the choice was made to stay with factory Rallye wheels and they are 14" so the question still stands and would like helpful suggestions for look and fitment

245-60 is as wide as you can go as far as I know. Only offered by BFG, unless someone else has found otherwise? That's what I'm putting on the rear of my '71 Demon w/ its original sbp 14" ralleyes.
I think I'm going w/ a 215-70 up front.

235-60 is pretty common.

Cooper has a 245/60

My first car was a 71 Swinger with 14" slot mags and I had 245/60-14 on the back. If your unsure then go with the 235's.

I can't recall the front tire size. I want to say they were 215 somethings.

215/70R14 on all 4.
Should be in the recommended rim widths, whether 6, 6.5 or 7"
205/70 or 75 would be OK too as it is still within the load range, assuming the rim width isn't outside of recommended range.

Choose the type of tire and tread based on intended use.
A front anti-sway bar makes a big difference for most driving.

Bigger, heavier tires alone do not improve handling. Taller rear tires alone will make the car slower off the line.

GENERAL ALTIMAX RT43
215/70/14 on 14x5.5" big bolt pattern RALLYE wheels, front
225/70/14 on 14x6.0" big bolt pattern RALLYE wheels, rear

the factory small bolt pattern RALLYEs only come in 14x5.5" - I wouldn't recommend the 245/60/14s on the 5.5' wide wheels & the 14" 60 series tires are just too short

I ran 235/60's on my 71 Duster. Although, with the 67 440, 280/.474 cam and 3.91 suregrip, any tire I put on it got destroyed pretty quickly!

I agree with 6bbl. 60-series 14" tires are short.
FWIW, decades ago I had a '73 Dart, Slant/Tflite, that I used to commute, which included some 65-70 mph time.
I wound up with 215 & 235/70s on 15x7 steelies, which were a tight fit; rears could rub with backseat passengers.
Helped with the RPM/MPH a lot, not so much acceleration, but it was slow even with its stock 14s.

A typical all season radial, or slightly performance oriented tire in that size will not be expensive.
General, BFG, and probably Uniroyal still offer 215/70-14 and such.
I'd expect Continental, Michelin, and Goodyear to be a little more expensive but you never know.
At least as important is the specific tire model. The more 'performance oriented' street tires almost always cost more. This is true whether its a studless performance snow tire, or ultra performance summer only tire.

When looking, remember the treadwear and traction ratings are based on other tires made by that manufacturer.
IMO general higher tread wear rating is generally not any worth trade off for decreased traction.
Also depending on how much the car will be used and where it sits, may end up replacing the tires before the tread depth is worn out.

as to tread wear, i just hate tires that "go square" before the tread is almost bald [gone].

I agree with topside - if you get a 15" rim and tire, you would be better off.
My buddy found 15" small bolt Cragars and put them on his Dart.
He originally had 14" Cragars but likes the 15" ones better.

All 'A' bodys are not equal

My sons 68 Dart 270 has its rear sub frame welded in unevenly. When it had the 155/78 13's you could not tell by looking. But once Tubbed and we put some 275 /45 18's on front and 325/45 20's in the rear the right side tire is too close to the fender.

The A body 1965 Barracuda has bigger rear fenderwells. I had 245/70 15's back there and could put my hand all around the wheelwell. When we put my LRT's slotted 15 rims on it with 275/60 15's they fit tight and did not rub unless in a corner or if I had two 200 pound guys in the rear seat. Running SS springs in stock location. Pictures are with the Cop Car Rally's and 275/60 15's

Had 215-70R14 (front) and 225-70R14 (rear) on my 14" X 5 1/2" small bolt pattern Rallye wheels on a factory installed 8 3/4" rear end. Fronts rubbed on sharp turns (probably due to the SSBC front disc brakes pushing the track width out ~3/8").

Currently I have 195-75R14 (front) and 215-75R14 (rear). Current picture

That was as big as I could fit in the back of my 72 Swinger and only after rolling the fender lip, gave me about 1/2" of clearance there. The inner sidewall would just kiss the leafs in a hard turn, had maybe 3/8" static clearance. Other than the fender lip mod no other mods were done.

My 73 Swinger has 245/60/15 on the rear and I had to roll the lip on the driver side for clearance. The passenger side was fine. My 73 dart sport has 235/60/14 and they fit and look good.
