Throwout bearing slop on input shaft

Throwout bearing slop on input shaft - 11/15/19 03:55 AM

Picked up a ‘75 Ramcharger & trying to diagnose an occasionally shaky clutch pedal when it’s depressed. The Z bar is floppy on the ball stud but there is no spring on the clutch fork but the most issue I think I have is the up & down movement of the throwout bearing on the shaft. Is there suppose to me that much room for movement in the throwout bearing or should the throwout bearing have had a smaller inside diameter? Or does the spring on the fork keep slight pressure to keep it in the right spot?

Looks way too loose.

The video looks like it might be a Hemi TO bearing on a non-Hemi shaft. I recently got a clutch kit from Autozone that had a plastic TO bearing sleeve, fit real loose...I didn't use it.

That would make the most sense. Everything has been overdone on this Ramcharger on the engine. Low compression 318 with a 750 Holley, Edelbrock performer intake, MSD pro billet distributor, MSD 6AL, Centerforce dual friction & Centerforce flywheel. So I’m sure they heard “Hemi throwout bearing” & figured it’s “got to be better” so I need it.

A few other parts store clutch kits come with that plastic throw out bearing retainer as well. I installed one on a V6 Dakota a guy brought me once. 3 weeks later I got to replace he plastic throw out bearing. The parts store replaced the entire clutch kit and didn't want the old one back. So I have had a new in the box clutch disc and pressure plate sitting here for about 3 years now.

Its also possible the input shaft front bearing collar is worn as well, this stuff isn't getting any newer. Gene
