New tire time...

New tire time... - 10/13/19 11:18 PM

My 20 year old Goodyear Eagles are dead. A damaged one actually blew out sitting on the lift. Anyway, I'm looking for raised white letter tires in 15 inch. 275/60 and 245/60. Whats your favorite brand these days? I've heard the BFGs letters turn brown.

Mickey Thompson Sportsman ST radials are good white letter tires for older cars. There made by Cooper.

Been running BFG T/As for decades and never had the white letters change colors. On the upside, killer wet traction for about the first 10,000 miles. On the downside, never got more than about 45,000 miles on a set.

Because of that last issue I decided to try a couple sets of Dunlop GT Qualifiers. Very similar tread pattern, advertised as 60,000 mile tread life, a few bucks cheaper and many reviews say they're just as good as the BFGs. My experience, with two different cars, is that they straight up suck in the rain.

I've always wondered if those "tire stickers" are any good (will last the life of the tire). Does anyone here know?

I have a set of BFGs and yes the letters have turned brown but since they are on a vehicle I don't drive much I haven't bothered trying to clean them yet. But I've read the same complaints that no matter what people do they can't get them back to white.

Man! You guys are lucky. None of this stuff is available north of the 49th.
I can get BFG's or Cooper Cobras - that's it!

I was happy to learn a few years back that the Uniroyal Tiger Paw was available with a white wall again - and in 14 inch sizes!

Love Uniroyal Tiger Paws. Good every day kind of tire.

I have some BFG's on one car, seem decent but there older and a little on the hard side, very easy to get tire spin. Put a set of the Mickey T sportsman on one vehicle and really like them. Seem to handle relatively well and seem pretty sticky for a street tire. Getting ready to order a set of the Mickey T, street-strip R2's they seem to be rated highly. I imagine there a very soft compound so they wont last real long. I only drive each one of my cars apx. 500 miles a year so they should last at least a few years hopefully 5-10 yrs. They are available in 235/60/15
