Fuel gauge - 08/14/19 01:54 PM

wave....I'm giving up on getting the original fuel gauge in my hot rod 48 DeSoto to work. Confirm for me that if I install an after market fuel gauge with a new in tank sending unt with the same OHMS, it should work.
While I'm here, do you know of anyone that sells rectuglar fuel gauges that operate by wiring, and not circuit board?
3. Know if anyone that could put my DeSoto fuel gauge face on an after market gauge.

few things.
you could replace both the sending unit and the gauge.
or if the sending unit is still good, you can purchase a gauge using that same range of ohms usually.

depending on if the sweep is up or down, you could buy a new gauge and gut it.
people have done it with volt meters and used the amp meter front on it.

you will have to see what the gauge backs and such look like and how you would fit the old face to it.

as for needing the circuit board, the car uses that because the vr is part of that board, but aftermarket gauges are generally 12 volts and don't require that.

Thank you. Very helpful info. So far as I can tell, the original tank unit looks good, but have not been sucessful finding what the ohmns are on the original gauge.

if you have it out just measure the resistence. like normal mopar is 12 to 78
