Removing Hard Water Stains From Wheels?

Removing Hard Water Stains From Wheels? - 08/03/19 01:12 AM

One of the polished aluminum wheels on my Chrysler 300 has been getting water from one of our sprinklers on it & I just discovered it. The soft cloth car wash near us cannot get these stains off with their wheel cleaner, & I have not tried anything yet. Any ideas on how to remove these spots?

Way back when I used to detail cars we bought supplies from this company. They most likely offer something to remove water spots. http://mark-v.com/

If your wheels are clear coated the finish may be etched and that is why the spots don't go away. If they are coated I would not go crazy as damaging the finish is a real possibility. Stay clear of any wheel acids and don't use any strong chemicals in the direct sun.

If they are raw metal then you should be able to polish them out Might have to start with something more abrasive and then work your way back to a polish.

Its the minerals that make the water "hard". I haven't used it on wheels but vinegar has done a good job on anything else I've had to remove the stains from. As long as they're not crusted up from months of buildup the stains should wipe right off.

Vert, this looks like something to try. I was thinking something like CLR, but I've used that before for other hard water & rust stain issues on porcelain & in the shower, & it simply does not work.
