BS Cuda cowl numbers question - 07/25/19 04:28 AM

looking at purchasing a 1970 real BS Cuda, But, the stamped cowl number is exactly 10000 off from the VIN and fender tag. could this mistake have actually happened on the assembly line? I could not read the numbers on the radiator support, as they are under a sticker. the car has been repainted, but never under the hood that I can tell, so I don't expect ever any front end body damage. other worries that just popped out for me are that the car does not have a rally dash, it has an AM/FM radio instead of the R11 stated on the fender tag, and the rally hood is from a later crumple zone car. of course I realize things could be swapped over the years, but the non matching numbers bother me big time

What about the motor and transmission? Are they stamped the same? I guess it would depend on the price of the car, color, etc. I could see a factory mistake.

NOM. 383 car with a 440 in it. the guy has owned it since 1974, and the Vitamin C resto is 20 years old. it's a good solid driver no doubt. around 40K

Cool, I just bought a vitamin C Cuda from a guy who bought his in 77 from the original owner. It needs complete restoration but it’s a 440 auto with air.

I would not worry about it one bit, ive two cars that are so close the last of the vin is seperated by 4, might of been in sight of each other on the assembly line if thats how it worked, but both trunk vins are 1 off on the start of the sequential.

So if thats confusing one car would be xxxxxxxxxxxx2
The other xxxxxxxxxxxx6 all same except last

Trunk on both xxxxxxxyxxxx2
xxxxxxxyxxxx6

So both are one number off on the 100000 just like the op posted.

Funny thing is it was simple luck I got two of the same cars 4 apart, one org. came from NJ, the other from FL.

I wrote this and its hard to understand.
