Using 440 Bellhousing with a Hemi?

I have a 67 Coronet with a 426 hemi and automatic. I want to switch over to a 4-speed. I have a 67 440 bellhousing 2843234 to use. First, will it work with the hemi? second, I know I need an 8-bolt flywheel, but 11" and 172 tooth one? I am wondering about starter issues? I plan to use stock exhaust manifolds and a mini-starter. Third, will other 440 parts ie torque bar, clutch fork, 4-speed driveshaft etc. work. Thanks for your help.

Depends what you mean by work. For example you can buy an 8 bolt 130 tooth flywheel and then use a 10.5 inch clutch. That will all physically bolt together but it might not hold up to the power of the Hemi. Just depends on how much torque the Hemi makes. Best bet is to jump on Brewer's website and figure out the parts you need and then talk to them about a clutch package that will fit your parts and hold up to the Hemi. There might be a solution and there might not be.

172-tooth pretty much locks you into either a RobbMC starter (excellent but $$$) or the direct-drive OEM piece (slow as molassses and REALLY spendy).
Like Andy says, call Brewer's (or Passon) and ask them for specifics depending on what you have going on.

According to Brewer's 2843234 is a 143 tooth bellhousing

If you use 143 flywheel and 67 bell the starter will hit the manifold even mini starter I have seen shimming the manifold with a header flange
I'm using 1970 bell 130 flywheel and mini starter still tie fit with manifolds all so use 10.95 clutch 500 hp works well
I do have a 67 4 speed hemi bell available

You also need to match the bell house to trans bearing retainer. The 67 is small hole bell. Depending on what you have for a hemi 4 Speed and which size bearing retainer is installed, may also have to get it.

Yeah, I have a 67 18 spline so it will match the 67 bell I have.. hitting the bell with the starter is upsetting though..

The factory made many 1967 Hem B body 4 peed cars, I'm not sure if all of them or some of them had the 172 flywheel with the direct drive starters and some where built with the 143 tooth flywheel, bell housing and gear drive starters or not
I do know you could use a 383-440 130 tooth bell housing with a 10.95 size clutch and a 8 bolt 130 steel or aluminum flywheel as already pointed out to make sure it clears the stock exhaust you might have to have your front bearing retainer turn down to fit into the small front bearing size on the stock bellhousing also, maybe not
All the 18 spline 833NP I've owned and work on all had the large 308 front bearings along with the large front bearing retainers, I was using Ansens and Lakewood scatter shields and not stock bell housing to run my old Hemi car in NHRA A/S stock class, that was a non hooking experience for 2.5 yrs

Best to use 10.5" stuff with Hemi and exhaust manifolds. Clutch size is a non issue.
