Air cleaner base for Eddy carb?

Air cleaner base for Eddy carb? - 07/09/19 10:12 PM

I'm looking for a base to use on an Eddy AVS2 with the Road Runner unsilenced top.
That's 12.75 - 13.00 across, with a 5 1/8 carb air horn.
Stock looks to be about even height, maybe +1/4" (filter higher than air horn), don't need a drop base.

Been beating the heck outta the interweb - Summit Jeg's Manicini Ebay Amazon Proform etc etc.
Even tried plastic, 12", nothing. 11" is too small.
Only thing I can find is a Proform assembly for Fords at about $70, but all I need is a base.
I thought I'd find something - I can't be the1st guy to this party, right?

The stock rr base doesn't fit the AVS2?

Nope - Edelbrocks use the 5 1/8 air cleaners like a Holley.

Thanks, I missed that one. Sent them a message, and will update the thread when I hear back.

Whatever base you buy, make sure it clears the eddy fuel inlet, most bases won't unless of course you buy one from eddy down

Very confused, I only know of two sizes of 4 bbl air horns, 4 7/16 and 5 1/8". In 1968 Chrysler went to AVS and Holley 4 bbls with 5 1/8" air horns. Are you saying the AVS2 has some other size opening? Or that something on the AVS2 fouls the air cleaner base?

The smaller afb type air horns are not everywhere anymore. Found that out a few years ago, and would have loved to get the stock 273 commando air cleaner to work on a 67 valiant 273 that was fitted with the newer eddy carter style carb..

The drop base air cleaner that was fine on the Holley DP hangs up on either the choke assembly or the fuel inlet of my new AVS2. Can't remember which. So I run a plastic 1/2" spacer ring. It's kind of a PITA, but gets the job done and I have enough room under the hood for it and I'm too cheap to buy another base or assembly that fits.

My stock unsilenced air cleaner base measures 5.05" ID at its throat.
I'd rather not grind it larger if the AVS2 5.125" dimension is exact.
Maybe it's not, I don't have an AVS2 here to measure.
My base looks like it'll clear the AVS2 fuel inlet area, which appears a bit taller than my 4426S.
The goal is to have this look as stock/original as possible.

The stock air cleaner base definitely fits on an Edelbrock carb. Something isn't right.

Oh, it all may work fine and I might be worrying too much; kinda looks that way.
Could well be that Edelbrock's 5.125" dimension is "loose".
I really appreciate the info from you guys, thanks.

The 5.125" is a standard size, that said, it's generally the center of the mounting surface's dimension, it's not the OD or the ID, the correct gasket for the 5.125" air horn has an ID of 5.030" and an OD of 5.550" and there is usually a hair of gappage yet.
