727 to manual (5-speed) conversion

727 to manual (5-speed) conversion - 07/05/19 10:25 PM

I am picking a very nice 1970 R/T that has had a transplant from 383 to 440 6-pack with the original 727 behind it, body is pristine, rust free and gorgeous as is the interior. The car is difficult to drive with the 3.91 gears and 3 speed auto and I am kicking around a 5-speed conversion. My question is will a 5-speed conversion diminish the value of the car with the required modifications to the tunnel or increase value? I know I could do gears and taller tires, etc but I really prefer manuals anyway. TIA

Well, since the original engine is not there it's not going to command as much with the resto crowd and the 5 speed would not appeal to them either.

But if your buyer wants to drive it and likes to hot rod things then it could be a plus. So I guess the answer is, it depends on who's buying it.

If your going to mod the car's floorpan/tunnel, don't waste the time with a 5 spd, T56 6 speed...

The 383 was never available in any Charger R/T.
