Fasteners / Clips for 67 Coronet Convertible - 06/17/19 09:05 PM

Long time ago I took my 67 Coronet Convertible to a restoration shop for a rebuild. After they took the car apart, without cataloging any of the fasteners, they went out of business. I managed to get the majority of the car parts back but they lost all of the fasteners and clips. Does anyone have a recommendation on who to buy fasteners and clips from for this car? I basically need everything (chrome trim, wiring, seats, dash and glove box, firewall, drive train, etc.). I have tried AMK Fasteners in Virginia and R/T Specialties with no luck. Any ideas or leads would be greatly appreciated.

Go down to NAPA and look at the trim clips they have there. And they can get more. It will be the best value you can find.

Thanks for the idea. I was hoping to find someone or a company that sold kits for the various items. I started looking thru Classic Industries and Year One catalogs but getting the correct fastener is tricky. Considering I basically need every clip and fastener on the car that would also be a bit time consuming. I can do it, just trying to find a faster way.

I thought I recall that the 67 b-body convertible used the same clips as the a-body. If so R/T had them as of last summer. I waited over 2 years for my set. Layson should have as well since they use the same source.

..and the nice thing is NAPA has a catalog/binder containing a physical sample of each fastener they sell, so you can see the *actual* piece of the hardware before you buy it..

Some other thoughts... Most of the fasteners may be hidden, but still..
- Are there any other local 66 or 67's you can look at?
- Do you have any friends, connections, or a car club that might have a similar car in your area?
- Track down any old salvage yards locally, see of they have any 66 - 67's kicking around.

Best,

Tom doesn’t have any left? He said he had a couple thousand as of last summer.

I contacted Tom about a year ago and told him some of the items I needed. Gave him my credit card number, too. Followed up with several more phone calls to see when they would be sent. Never heard from him again and never received any fasteners. So I gave up on him.

I have a 67 Coronet R/T but it is my car that I take to car shows and meets. So I don't want to take it apart. There are other club members here (Lost Wages) that have 66's and 67's but they did not restore them to the extent that I am doing. I have asked around but no luck there.

I guess I will have to go through a Year One or Classic Industries catalog and make a list of what they have. Then compare prices between them, plus Layson's and NAPA.It will be a long process but it is what has to be done to get the car back together.

Thanks for the advice. Gives me a better idea of what I need to do now.

Laysons has them for sure. I was on a wait list for them. They called me to say they were in stock just after I picked up from Tom at Carlisle last year. Any clip you find in any other catalog will not look like these. They are pretty unique . On the A-body if you dont have them, you risk being visible with top open and/or make contact with the roof material when roof is closed. Pained me to pay that much for 25 clips, but not like there is another choice that works correctly.

From your original description I actually thought you might be a guy here in Fresno that I know. Similar story on a '67 R/T convertible. I don't know if he has any extras on the trim clips, but he has spent the better part of the last 30+ years buying trim parts for all Mopars and selling them. I don't see him much, but I do see his brother from time to time. I'll see if I can find out anything.

Thanks for all of the help.I have started the long process of going thru the catalogs and finding parts and checking prices. I will keep checking back and let you know how it is going. I am sure I am not the only person with this kind of problem.

About 30 years ago I gave Tom ( R/T Specialties ) a couple of my old original 67 Barracuda convertible top surround belt molding clips for a sample , and he eventually got them manufactured . They are very unique . Tom means well , but is overwhelmed with all he has to do , and I think your best bet is to try again with him . No one is more knowledgeable with so many fasteners , and which ones you need !
